This is a great lamp in 90% of ways - it's sturdily constructed, easy enough to assemble, and totally useful. The small reading lamp, in particular, is bright like the sun. The only thing I don't like is that the thing on the top of the lamp in the picture, that looks like a little dome, is actually a wire cage to catch debris. It's not a solid dome. So it looks a little...ugly right there. And it's visible from almost every angle.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Torchiere's are very nice looking, extremely stable, well constructed, and provide great lighting. The reading lamp arm is easily adjustable, once you get the tension right by adjusting the screw. Both lights are controlled from the pole, which makes the torchiers and reading lamp easy to turn on/off and adjust the lighting. Torchieres were easily and quickly assembled, although the instructions were hard to read and follow.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I think this is a very nicely designed and versatile lamp for the price. Instructions are awful, but assembly is easy as the lamp is shipped partially assembled. I have to admit I was a little put off at first upon opening the carton and reading the assembly instructions which are maddeningly brief, but if you take a deep breath and calm down it's not very hard to assemble after all. Wrenches and extra screws are supplied except a phillips head screwdriver (which you need in order to secure the glass dish) which anyone should have. With assembly completed and the fixture standing, I was very pleased. I am a little disappointed with the brightness of the 300 watt halogen in this lamp, however. I have another 300 watt halogen lamp that seems brighter for some reason. Maybe it's the bulb that is provided with this lamp. (Incidentally an extra is supplied in the packing). I may try a different brand of halogen in the future.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
